If I could boast about anything it would be that I am a third generation Idahoan and have lovingly embraced my heritage as a farm kid from the small town of Filer, Idaho. I grew up in the same house with with four sisters and it was never a dull moment. I attended Filer schools from grades K-12 and graduated as Valedictorian in 2011. My college experience included two years at The College of Southern Idaho and two years at The College of Idaho where I graduated in 2015. I started graduate school at The College of Idaho in June 2015 and completed the Masters in Teaching program in July 2016.
I truly love having grown up on a farm because I always had the opportunity to work with my family and I learned how to grow and take and pride in what I grew. This experienced helped shaped my love for education because on the farm there is always a teachable moment and I was usually the one being taught.
At the heart of my teaching philosophy is a critically caring pedagogy: humans cannot be forfeit from knowledge, nor do they they deserve to be treated inhumanely. To promote these ideals, education should represent a socially just mindset. John Dewey's quote, "We do not learn from experience...we learn from reflecting on it," is indicative of this philosophy. If I can grow one student to care for our society, then I am doing something right.
